about us

Founded in 1975, Jovenes de Antaño was inspired by the tremendous need for culturally appropriate community-based older adult services in San Benito County. A group of concerned citizens (comprised predominately of low income and Latino seniors) applied for non-profit status and prepared a grant proposal for a Senior Nutrition Site which included various social and recreational activities. Over the years, offerings have grown to include:

-
Information, Assistance, & Referral Services
-
Transportation Services
-
Congregate & Home-Delivered Meals
-
Family Caregiver Support Services
-
Exercise Classes
-
Administrative & Legal Assistance
-
In-Home Services Registry (now closed)
-
One of the first Adult Day Programs in San Benito
County (now closed)
Jovenes de Antaño provides information and referrals to Senior Legal Services for assistance with defending the right of the elderly to quality health care, social integration, to secure their persons and property, and to be free of discrimination on the basis of age or disability.
Jovenes de Antaño provides information and referrals to Senior Network Services for HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) free, confidential one-on one counseling, education, and assistance to older people and their families on Medicare, Long-Term Care insurance, other health insurance related issues, and planning ahead for Long-Term Care needs.

On May 13, 2023 in Honor of Pauline Valdivia the building has been dedicated in her gratitude for exemplary service, commitment, and dedication to the City of Hollister. Pauline's spirit continues to live here. She shared her smile, passion and dedication to the senior community as the founder of the Jovenes De Antano.

Don’t think of her/him as gone away
Her/His journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one.
Just think of her/him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how she/he must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of her/him as living
In the hearts of those she/he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she/he was loved so much.
